Jan 2021PM. Dr Keith Rowley has announced NO Carnival/Panorama for 2021 due to Covid virus. Some carnival stakeholders (NCC, TUCO, Chuntey-Soca, Pan Trinbago etc..) opted instead for virtual shows/concerts that will be streamed on the internet.

Youths are being asked to submit a video of themselves doing two verses on the topic “Living Covid Free”, which must be uploaded to friendsoftheyouthstt@gmail.com by January 31st at 7 p.m.

18 successful participants will go through to the second round. The videos will be judged by a panel of experienced calypso and extempo judges.

Two persons in the Secondary and Primary school categories who were not successful will have an opportunity to be selected for the finals through a “like” system on Facebook.

Featuring: soca from Ding Dong, College Boy Jesse, Nadia Batson, Elon Baker, Voice, Christo, new artiste Savanna, calypsonians Cro Cro, Ras Kommanda, Brian London and Farmer Nappy.

Along with a choir from St Joseph’s Convent, Skiffle, and its junior pan group and recent recipient of an honorary doctorate from UWI pannist Len “Boogsie” Sharpe. MC is comedian Rachel Price.

SAPA can only entertain a live audience of 250 people (physical distancing protocols).
Sat. 6th Feb.The Caribbean Yard Campus (CYC) will be offering its 'Earth to Sky Mas Design, Construction and Performance course beginning on February 6, 2021'.

The course offers an alternative opportunity for mas people wishing to learn new skills and to become qualified in mas building.

The programme will last for one year, culminating in Carnival 2022. It is the only programme of its type globally that is fully certified by TT’s National Training Agency, the campus said in a media release.

The programme offers workshops in mas-making crafts, performance traditions and creative presentation, the business of mas, and the staging of practical projects, with the objectives of certifying experienced mas practitioners, as well as introducing newcomers to the art and industry of mas.

The 2021 cycle will be offered in three sessions – Dry Season from April to June, Mango Season from July to August, and Rainy Season from October to December.

The classes will be offered mainly virtually with some restricted contact classes. For more info: caribbeanyardcampus.org.
Sat. 6th Feb.The Red Cross Children's Carnival Virtual 65 Emerging Designers Competition

The participants targeted will be between seven to 21 years of age. They will compete in three age categories: Junior Designers from seven to 12 years, Teen Designers between the ages of 13 to 17 years and Senior Designers from 18 years to 21.

Sat. 6th Feb. to Sun. 7th Feb.Brown Cotton Outreach's (BCO) presentation of 'The Revenge of King Jab Jab' (Carnival theatre social satire) at Little Carib Theatre, : Cor. White and, Roberts Street, Port of Spain.

Directed by Ellen O'Malley Camps; written by Wayne Lee-Sing; produced by Louris Martin Lee-Sing. Featuring: Paula Hamilton-Smith, Danielle Elliot, Afi Ford-Hopson, Reena Christian, and Wayne Lee-Sing, with music by Roger Israel.

The release said proceeds from the show will be used to aid the Little Carib Theatre with its covid19 recovery programme, having had to close for nearly a full year. Proceeds will also be used to further future BCO projects such as the continuation of the BCO/MSP (Maximum Security Prison) film and theatre programme, documentary film projects, and furthering access to its dynamic educational and outreach approach, the Camps Carnival Theatre Technique.

The Little Carib Theatre will have several covid19 protocols in place at its at White and Robert Streets, Woodbrook, location. These will include patrons, cast and crew being required to wear masks on entry. These are to be kept on for the entire duration of the theatre visit. On entry, hands are to be washed or sanitised, a temperature check is to be done, and a contact tracing sheet is to be filled out. The theatre will be sanitised after each show, and hand sanitisers will be placed at key points for use.

There will be three shows, one at 7 pm on February 6, and a 3 pm matinee and 7 pm show on February 7. Only 80 people can attend each show, owing to covid19 protocols. The costumes will reflect the national flags of the countries affected by the pandemic. Additionally, the costumes will also reflect the flags of the other Caribbean islands, who are unable to be here for Carnival, but ho have supported our festival over the years. We are celebrating them too.”
