On Sunday 18 April, the birth date of Aldwin Roberts, Lord Kitchener, the Pan Institute and Rainorama will host the first ever "Kitch Fete". This event in honour of the late icon is a joint endeavour between Cathy George of the Pan Institute and Kernal Roberts, of the Kitchener Museum and son of Lord Kitchener . Roberts and "Aunty Cathy" share a commitment to preserve Kitch's music and history. Roberts in tribute to his father sang "The Sounds of the Ghost" in 2001. Artists scheduled to perform at the event include Lord Relator, Funny, Cro Cro, Baron, Sugar Aloes, Dane Gulston, Rootsman, Kernal Roberts, Pink Panther, Bomber, Regen Now, Lord Superior, Sprang-a-lang and Denyse Plummer, to name a few. All calypsonians will cover a host of tunes by Lord Kitchener. Showtime is 6.00 p.m. and the venue will be the Diego Martin Pan Institute "under the Pommecythere" at 75 Benjamin Street. The cover charge is $60 which includes door prizes. The first 25 patrons will be given complimentary "Kitch hats". The remaining hats will be on sale and there will be opportunities for patrons to win them as well. The Kitchener Museum portrays the life and achievements of Lord Kitchener through artifacts memorabilia, photos and writings. The museum continues to discover, collect, preserve and display the life and musical genius of Kitch. note: part of the story was edited out. |
