The late Grand Master Lord Kitchener was lauded by some of the top jazz acts of the Caribbean, during the San Fernando Jazz Festival on Saturday night. The show catered mainly for local artistes from T&T and Barbados.

It started around 7 pm with veteran calypsonian Lord Superior, who performed one of his hit tunes titled January Girl. Members of the audience sang the chorus as Lord Superior produced a memorable rendition on stage. Following Lord Superior’s performance, well known pannist and arranger Ray Holman and Friends took to the stage.

They performed several songs, including the popular jazz hit People Make the World Go Round. Ruth Osman performed a Ray Holman composition called All I think About You. Alwyn Albino added a classical touch to Lord Kitchener’s melodies, as he played his tunes on the piano. Saxophonist and flute player Arturo Tappin provided a steady musical flow, much to the audience’s enjoyment.

However, the highlight of the show was undoubtedly Vaughnette Bigford, who kicked off her performance with the song Footprints. She showed herself as a true Jazz player when she sang a Michael Jackson selection, which she rearranged. Bigford also sang a French song and a solo with a base guitarist. Also performing at the event were: Errol Ince and his quintet, who performed for the first time in Trinidad, along with Desperadoes Steel Orchestra.
