Since his death in 2000, exactly ten years ago today, Under The Trees annually reflects on the timeless music of the Grandmaster, Kitchener. Stamping his imprimatur on Carnival in a way few can match, Kitchener's music is legend. Ace arranger Leston Paul some years ago proved it by successfully putting a classic adaptation to a selection of his compositions. This year, the tenth anniversary of Kitchener’s passing, the programme titled “The Greats” incorporates the music of his long-time friend and fellow calypsonian, the undisputed Calypso King of the World, the Mighty Sparrow. Scheduled for Wednesday, starting at 8.30 pm, the playbill includes, in addition to an appearance by Sparrow, David Bereaux, Alternative Quartet, 12 The Band, Soca Elvis, Denyse Plummer and David Rudder, doing their interpretations to selections from the duo’s extensive bodies of work.

The following night, February 11, David Rudder is co-producer for Roots: Reunion Jammin’ Time, the second edition of a show that brought together members of one of this country’s most successful soca bands, Charlie’s Roots. Out of this aggregation emerged two calypso celebrities—Christopher “Tambu” Herbert and David Rudder. Charlie’s Roots produced an enormous amount of musical energy that dominated the Carnival scene for more than 20 years. Making a special appearance at the “re-union” will be the Calypso Queen of the World, Calypso Rose. Other shows Under The Trees for Carnival 2010 are: SuperStars! with Dr Black Stalin, Shadow and Gypsy on Carnival Friday (February 12) and David: Ready to Party, with David Rudder on Carnival Saturday (February 13).
